It’s Not Easy Being Strange is a feature-length documentary exploring nearly 50 years of goth music and culture from its origins to the present day.
This film tells the story of goth, the music and the people, in their own words. While most documentaries focus on the early years, It’s Not Easy Being Strange goes further, capturing the voices, experiences, and stories of musicians, DJs, festivals, labels, magazines, fans, and more, from the early days to the present. It looks at key events in the scene and explores how goth has endured over the decades. Through interviews, archive material, and present-day footage, the film reveals a living, evolving subculture that continues to thrive.
